Sending a WordPress form to Google Sheets adds every entry as a new row, so your team can sort, filter and share answers in a spreadsheet they already use. The entry stays on your site too, so nothing depends on one account. This guide is ideal for beginners and for teams who live in spreadsheets. We walk through the service account key, sharing the sheet and switching it on for a form, which takes about 15 minutes the first time and 2 minutes for each form after.
The short version
- Make a Google service account key once and paste it into Echo Forms.
- Share each spreadsheet with that service account as an Editor.
- On a form’s Marketing tab, add the spreadsheet ID and the tab name.
- Each new entry is added as a row; the entry also stays on your site.
Why send form entries to a spreadsheet?
Because a spreadsheet is where many teams already work. A sales lead can be assigned in a column, a volunteer list can be filtered by town, and a manager can see this week’s requests without logging in to WordPress. It also gives you a second copy of every answer, which helps if you ever change tools. This Google Sheets integration is free in Echo Forms, with no limit on rows from us.
What do you need from Google?
A service account key: a small JSON file that lets your site write to the sheets you share with it. You make it once in Google Cloud Console, following Google’s guide to service account keys. The Connections card in Echo Forms gives the same steps and shows the service account’s address, which is the one you share each spreadsheet with.
| You make | Where | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| A service account key (JSON) | Google Cloud Console | Letting your site write rows |
| A shared spreadsheet | Google Sheets | The rows, shared with the account as an Editor |
How to send a WordPress form to Google Sheets, step by step
- In Google Cloud Console, make a service account and download its key as JSON.
- In Echo Forms, open Connections, and paste the key into the Google Sheets card.
- Create the spreadsheet and add a header row with your question names.
- Share the spreadsheet with the service account address shown on the card, as an Editor.
- On the form’s Marketing tab, switch on Google Sheets, then paste the Spreadsheet ID and the Sheet/tab name.
- Send a test entry and check the new row. It should appear within 1 minute.
The Spreadsheet ID is the long code in the sheet’s address, between /d/ and /edit. The send entries to your other tools guide and the connections guide show both screens.
What happens to old entries?
Only new entries are added as rows once the connection is on. For entries you already have, export them as a CSV from Entries and paste them into the sheet once. The export guide shows how. After that, every entry arrives within a few seconds of being sent.
Can more than one form go to the same sheet?
Yes. Point each form at the same spreadsheet and give each its own tab, such as Quotes and Contact, so the columns line up. We keep one spreadsheet per team and one tab per form, which keeps 10 forms tidy in a single file. A team of 5 people can then work from one link.
Sending a WordPress form to Google Sheets takes about 15 minutes to set up once, then a couple of minutes per form. It is one of the most useful free connections in Echo Forms, and you can see the other tools entries can go to next.
